Researchers suspect that the salinity of Earth's oceans has far-reaching effects on climate, much as the salt levels within our bodies influence our own delicate internal balance. An international team of scientists from NASA and the Space Agency of Argentina, or CONAE, will investigate this possibility with the aid of a satellite named "Aquarius/SAC-D," scheduled to launch on June 9th.


"Based on decades of historical data gathered from ocean areas by ships and buoys, we know the salinity has changed over the last 40 years," says Aquarius principal investigator Gary Lagerloef. "This tells us there's something fundamental going on in the water cycle."


Salinity is increasing in some ocean regions, like the subtropical Atlantic, which means more fresh water is being lost through evaporation at the sea surface. But no one knows why this is happening; nor can anyone pinpoint why other areas are experiencing more rainfall and lower salinity. To solve these mysteries, scientists need a comprehensive look at global salinity.


Within a few months, Aquarius will collect as many sea surface salinity measurements as the entire 125-year historical record from ships and buoys.

"Salinity, along with temperature, governs the density of seawater," says Lagerloef. "The saltier the water, the denser it is, and density drives the currents that determine how the ocean moves heat around the planet. For example, the Gulf Stream carries heat to higher latitudes and moderates the climate. When these currents are diverted by density variations, weather patterns such as rainfall and temperature change."


Scientists have gathered an ensemble of measurements over the ocean--e.g., wind speed and direction, sea surface heights and temperatures, and rainfall. But these data do not provide a complete picture.


"We've been missing a key element – salinity," says Lagerloef. "A better understanding of ocean salinity will give us a clearer picture of how the sea is tied to the water cycle and help us improve the accuracy of models predicting future climate."

Aquarius is one of the most sensitive microwave radiometers ever built, and the first NASA sensor to track ocean salinity from space.


"It can detect as little as 0.2 parts salt to 1,000 parts water -- about the same as a dash of salt in a gallon of water. A human couldn't taste such a low concentration of salt, yet Aquarius manages to detect it while orbiting 408 miles above the Earth."


The Aquarius radiometer gets some help from other instruments onboard the satellite. One of them helps sort out the distortions of the choppy sea. CONAE's Sandra Torrusio, principal investigator for the Argentine and other international instruments onboard, explains:


"One of our Argentine instruments is another microwave radiometer in a different frequency band that will measure sea surface winds, rainfall, sea ice, and any other 'noise' that could distort the Aquarius salinity measurement. We'll subtract all of that out and retrieve the target signal."


Torrusio is excited about the mission.


"I've met so many new people, not only from Argentina, but from the US and NASA! It's been a great experience to work with them and exchange ideas. We may come from different places, but we all talk the same language. And it isn't English – it's science."


Working together, these international "people of science" will tell us more about the ocean's role in our planet's balance – and in our own – no matter where we live.

Aquarius/SAC-D: This multipurpose observatory continues the long-standing partnership between NASA and the Argentine Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales, or CONAE. NASA provided launch vehicles and science instruments, while CONAE contributes the spacecraft, mission operations, and science instruments for their national space program. The NASA Aquarius instrument to measure ocean salinity is the prime instrument on the Aquarius/SAC-D mission. JPL will manage the NASA Aquarius implementation through its commissioning phase and archive mission data. Goddard will manage Aquarius instrument operations and process science data. NASA's Launch Services Program at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida is managing the launch. CONAE is providing the SAC-D spacecraft, an optical camera, a thermal camera in collaboration with Canada, a microwave radiometer; sensors from various Argentine institutions and the mission operations center there. France and Italy are contributing instruments. SAC stands for Satélite de Aplicaciones Científicas. This is "D" in this series of four science application satellites Argentina has built in collaboration with NASA. A radiometer is essentially a sensitive radio receiver, which, in this case, detects natural microwave emissions given off by the ocean's surface. The Aquarius radiometer scans the sea surface to measure the emitted power in a certain frequency band (1400-1430 MHz) that is proportional to the water's salt content. There are an average of 35 parts per thousand of salt in the ocean (this ratio varies from 32-37 in open ocean areas). That is, the ocean is 3 1/2 percent salt, and in 1 kilogram seawater there's about 35 grams of salt. Since salinity levels in the open ocean vary by only about five parts per thousand, the instrument must be very sensitive.

Again, when reading the article below, replace the word negative, black, devil, demons, ghost, dark and witch to IMPURE, which is their intended meaning. Because negative is heavenly and we do not want to remove our heaven or our soul. In it's natural state, our soul is perfectly radiant and our devotional heaven within (relative). 1. What is salt water remedy?

Ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.) affect people and cause distress to them through their subtle black energy. Black energy can create a variety of problems such as depression, unclear thinking or malfunction of an organ which lead to even further difficulties such as addiction, financial problems or chest pain respectively. 

Ghosts transmit their black energy to the people that they target/ attack and create large stores of it in their bodies. It is difficult to get rid of this black energy except through a generalised spiritual remedy such as spiritual practice or a more specific one like the salt water remedy. 

The salt water remedy is a simple but powerful spiritual remedy to counteract the harmful unseen black energy and drain it out of our system. By doing so, we do not waste our spiritual practice in counteracting black energy. Instead it can be used to bring about our spiritual growth.

2. When should we use the salt water remedy?

Each one of us is affected by ghosts to varying degrees. As a result, we all have some degree of black energy in our bodies. Performing the salt water treatment on a daily basis helps to remove this black energy from our body.

Salt water treatment should especially be done when one experiences symptoms such as:

• Lethargy
• Reduction in promptness
• Inability to think
• Excessive thoughts especially when they are negative in nature
• Anger or any other extreme emotion
• Stress
• Any form of physical illness

When we are experiencing any one of the above symptoms, we are in a weakened state physically, emotionally or spiritually. The ghosts attack us in this weakened state and infuse more black energy and play up the symptoms to an even greater extent.

In cases of severe distress, the salt water remedy can be repeated 2-3 times in a day at 2-3 hour intervals for better results.

3. What is required for the salt water remedy?

• A large sized bucket
• Water filled in the bucket (up to 50%) to cover the ankles when the feet are immersed in the bucket
• Rock salt
• A towel
• A foot mat

 4. How is the salt water remedy performed?

 4.1 Step by step instructions

Preparation:

• Fill a bucket (upto 50%) with water so as to cover the ankles. Add 2 tablespoons of rock salt.
• Pray to God sincerely and with faith to remove the black energy in you. Also pray specifically for destroying the black energy of the ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.) affecting you. Prayer is an important ingredient which enhances the effectiveness of this remedy.

The remedy:

• Sit upright with your feet immersed in the salt water. Keep a distance of at least 2-3 cms between the feet. This aids in the maximum discharge of black energy. If the feet touch each other, then there is obstacle to the discharge of black energy through the feet.
• Keep the feet in the salt water for 10 – 15 minutes.
• While the feet are immersed, chant the Name of God according to your religion.

On completion:

• After the completion of the remedy give gratitude to God and pray for the creation of a protective sheath around you.
• Then throw the salt water in the toilet and rinse the bucket with fresh water.
• Chant the Name of God according to your religion for 2-3 minutes.

5. What is the mechanism of action?

1. The chanting and prayer cause the dislodgement and disintegration of the black energy particles generated in various parts of our being, by the ghost.
2. The salt water (water with rock salt) itself has the property of being able to suck out the black energy.
3. As the black energy is going out, it may be accompanied by symptoms like yawning, burping, numbness of legs, warmth in ears and eyes, etc. Sometimes there is a feeling of sliminess on the immersed feet. This is a sign of the black energy coming out. There is no possible way to change a man's heart, except with love. It is the sacred path, that must enter our lives.

This world is all for defending one's self, morals, and quite frankly our work ethic. This is not receiving others, to hear, what they may have to say. One writer says, he must politely tell others, they are wrong, well what if everyone is right? And it's only about the perspective!

We need find our hearts, to know brotherhood. Evolution will save us, since, it's time. Three more years, before sacredness must be learned or Heaven will simply cleanse the Earth. We scientists all know it. The common man all know it. But we all fail to see from others perspective, to know real love, where we receive each other.

Mind Your Manners By Steven Wiley

We need to treat each other with respect, or all of science will suffer. Being dismissive and emotional during public discussions makes you look bad to other people and erodes your credibility. 

There has been a lot of talk in the media about the loss of courtesy in modern society. By many criteria, it seems that people in general have lost a degree of politeness. Reading some of the online comments after several recent articles in The Scientist would seem to indicate that biologists have also lost their manners.

I’m thinking, in particular, of some personal attacks posted in response to Les Costello’s article in the September issue arguing that the National Institutes of Health are biased against senior scientists, since they give funding preferences to young investigators. Some of these readers commented on Costello’s recent grants, noting that he hadn’t submitted a competitive application within a few years. “I left basic academic research for one reason—people like you running the field.” “The whole system is broken, and people like you are going to keep it broken while you write papers on the backs of grad students and postdocs.”

This lack of basic manners alarms me not only because of the obvious danger to our sense of community, but also because this type of behavior could damage society’s positive perception of scientists.
Psychologists have suggested that when a group becomes stressed, it tends to lose the manners that serve to maintain normal relationships between its members. Biologists as a group are certainly under a lot of stress recently because of increased competition for funding, publications, and jobs. However, it is essential that we maintain respect for each other in our public discourse. Respecting each other is essential for real scientific dialog. If you dismiss someone’s opinion based on your feelings, you lose your objectivity. But being dismissive and emotional during public discussions also makes you look bad to other people and erodes your credibility.

Ideally, a scientist should be a dispassionate observer of the world who weighs the evidence and provides a thoughtful, well-reasoned judgment. This is clearly an idealistic vision of our profession to which we frequently fall short, mostly because scientists find it difficult to be dispassionate about anything. Yet, we should strive for this ideal if we expect that scientific opinions should be given special consideration in society.
This is important because we want people to believe in the data gathered and evaluated using the scientific method. If people aren’t confident in the people who are gathering the data, they won’t believe in its veracity. The jury’s negative opinion of the reliability of the DNA evidence gathered in the O.J. Simpson case is a glaring example of this truism.

I discovered the value of remaining objective recently when I was invited to give a lecture on the human genome project at a local church. I thought this would be a good opportunity to educate the public on why gene-sequencing data supports the theory of evolution. For most of my lecture, the audience seemed quite taken by the beauty of the common genetic ancestry of life. Predictably, halfway through my talk, a creationist started protesting that evolution was a lie. I maintained my calm and simply disagreed with him, stating that the facts of the matter did not support his claim. The more I remained calm, the more agitated he became. Finally, members of the audience asked him to leave “because they were interested in learning something.” He stalked out of the room in a frustrated huff. In this case, my dispassion bolstered my credibility.

I don’t think that my experience is unusual. Most people can tell the difference between reasonable assertions and unsupported conjecture. The problem is that when emotional outbursts are injected into a situation, any pretense of objectivity becomes lost.

In these times where science offers the best hope for progress in an increasing complex and fractious world, it would be a real tragedy if the bad behavior of some scientists compromised our reputation as neutral seekers of truth. Whether we like it or not, the behavior of each of us colors the popular perception of scientists as a whole.

While I agree with the premise of the article, that scientists should have better manners, I think using the words of a frustrated post-doc who brings up excellent points regarding why the academic system is broken is not a good example of "lack of manners". It is an example of frustration, which very many grad students and post docs feel these days. "Manners" start with the mentors/PIs. In my experience, PIs of all levels are increasingly paranoid about each other and ruthless behind each others' backs. Many do not want competition from younger scientists, even their trainees, and therefore sabatoge them or hold them back. Many purposefully hold onto data in order to manipulate the opinions of competitors/collaborators. Why? They are either scrambling to develop their career, scrambling to hold onto their career, or scrambling to crush out their competition and pad their incomes/frequent flyer miles. What is lacking is not manners, it is job security, funding, salary, and quality of life. Unfortunately, this is the environment so many people are trained in these days. The aggressive and narcissistic people survive in science these days. It is no wonder that "manners" is lacking.

Scientists as neutral truthseekers? Not so much in this very cutthroat world.

After reading this I had to go seek out the "rude" comments on the other article. If you ask me, this guy is right on the mark. You can't expect young scientists to be treated so badly for so long, and not be a little angry about it. Too many of us have just been quietly leaving science without a peep.

When I heard about this I knew the old guard would kick up a fuss.

The best part is "we survived the process - so can you!" This is the same logic that keeps medical residents up for 24 hours at a time when this has been proven to be dangerous to patients health.

The truth is, when a grant review committee receives the same exact grant application from a new investigator with 15 papers, and an ancient one with 200 papers, they give it to the old guy due to his "reputation" whether it is deserved or not.

The argument that young scientists are technologists with no broad reach is ridiculous - no doubt you started the same way sir, and only accumulated your integrated knowledge over a lifetime.

I left basic academic research for one reason - people like you running the field. With a payline of 10%, do you really expect a young investigator to try and build a lab and raise a family and teach? The system is now set up so that only the old established labs survive, and the few craziest young investigators willing to sleep in their labs while writing grant applications furiously have a slim chance of making it through.

You just don't realize that you are losing a whole generation of good scientists due to the lack of funding for young PIs and a ridiculous 5-6 year post-doc system that leaves you with no IRA and a slim chance of finding a decent job.

These changes MIGHT help, but they won't be enough - most of the smartest people I know realized this was essentially a lottery and left science ages ago. The whole system is broken, and people like you are going to keep it broken while you write papers on the backs of grad students and post-docs that should be earning twice what they are, and should have a reasonably predictable future but don't.

This comment is intended only for the author.
As they say, what rock have you been so luckily to be under? Science has no alternative. It?s too bad it has to be done by humans. Aside from the nasty person to person brutal contact sport of science, science is just not nice. I know too many who have had an attempt on their data or lost it to some other scientist, including myself. I dropped out of science in disgust decades ago and joined the counter culture. Unfortunately, the stupidity of that culture drove me back. But do not forget the larger even more sinister aspect of science like thermonuclear devises, just as a starting place. This is not new. Did you not ever read Mark Twain? How about Kirk Vonnegut? If you are so uneducated as not to know and understand the evil of science, then you should not be there. We are about to destroy the place we live on, dude. Even a caveman is smarter than that.

Please understand that I like doing science. It's just the institutions and other science people that make it so painful.

Manners matter !

Hello Dr Wiley,

I like very much the main theme of your article: ?manners matter!!!?. Manners can be instrumental for creating an ambience where dialogue progresses toward common understanding of the issues at hand. Rational solutions can then be found in the context of participation and opportunities for all parties involved.

Good Manners might not always be identified with politeness. Perhaps, they should also be identified with the ability to walk on other people?s shoes or even imagining yourself walking barefoot.

Good Manners might be the attribute of those who had experienced or are experiencing fulfillment. Losing your manners is certainly a possible human reaction in those searching for it without apparent opportunities.

As the English say goes: *Age before beauty*. It could be translated into: *Persuasiveness before good manners*. And persuasiveness is best exercised when one is able to walk on other people?s shoes. Or better, trying to walk barefoot.

I am not sure if the public loses confidence in science when manners are lost because there are little, if any, opportunities for new scientists or new science. The public might lose confidence in scientists when science is used for personal gain and/or self-serving purposes.

Totally agree. When I stand up to question a speaker who I think is totally wrong, or when I am the speaker and I think the questioner is totally wrong, I try very hard to remember to start by saying - "That is a very interesting point" And then try to politely and calmly show why they are wrong.
You rarely can change someone's mind. But if you make good points without emotion, often they will consider your points objectively, and then change their own mind.
You have to be dealing with rational people. Unfortunately too many US voters seem to enjoy being entertained by "Shock Jocks" rather than rational discourse.

Another Step to Evolution to Survive!

The Next Step is going down (from heaven), where the Sails come to the place, where breeze does blow (to earth).  And when the skies, fill up with clouds, I feel the tears, begin to wail.  But then I look into the light, where evolution, takes a step and turns from it's plight.  There my heart does pound (feel) and groom (learning), to be the one who seeks and yearns.


I want you to realize, that God is here to mirrorize, the place you have, the promise land, the longing of the sacred breeze at your hands.  Feel your face it's alive, the wind blows across and breath begins to strive.  And when the river bounds and blooms, the trees in the groves begin to grow.  I know it's the place, that is in disgrace, that only love will learn to know.  That all can be forgotten and learned again, to be the next step to realize (enlightenment), that we are part of something greater, the home of paradise, that longs to feel alive.


What can we do, you say to me?  I long to be where you breath.  The place of water and fire too, where the sun feels warm upon the dew.  Here my love grows and knows the way, to be the heart that fills the lungs every day, where breath and light, gives me arms to survive, to embrace my brother and his wife.  I want to be there with you in this land, all you must do, is come and give a hand.  And in your heartbeat, and in your song, let dance begin to loom (bind into the distance) and survive (unify).


Evolution has a song again, it's coming in your dreams and vivid knows how to grow and sow.  And it's the long way, where skies are aqua, the pillows of our thoughts, give spirit a place to strive.  Can it be the one in me, the perfect equation to the leaves?  Can I be what you need in me?  I say, yes, my heart needs all the leaves.  We are the tree of life you say!  And if the tree of love, needs leaves to grow, then you and me, and all the leaves, will be part of the next destiny, where dreams come home to be the leaves, the heartbeat of love, that grows and grieves.  


Your tears, my tears, they long to play, where rivers flow to bring a new day.  As long as the Sun rises every day.  As long as the Moon comes out to play.  Reflection and time, has relatives, who lie, down in green pastures every time.  A place to grow, a place to know, a place to believe in all the dreams. The next step to evolution is in me, the you, of all that blooms to sea (vision with a heart, that believes).

Duality is Light and Dark, Not Separate But Together From the Start!

It was in the 2004 that I got connected by a Woman of "Inner Earth" - Emaryll

She connected me because she was pregnant with twins and I as a Mother of twins twice she believed should have enough experience. She said she knows me from former times where I was - like my Mother in this life - kind of midwife in that birth temple...

We befriended and chatted a lot "girl talk" - "woman talk" but she also supported the "Pyramid center", the pendant, and a few other things..her time was June...and we were looking forwards to it all...

It was the evening of the summer solstice when I heard her call...we walked together to "that temple" built kind of pyramid where we stepped up ... the steps were amethyst - violet lighted...

The steps up were to make the opening more lightly...and then we came into a room - oh wow - I'd wish we could get such rooms for birthing...soft light - it was all christal, but we always think crystal is hard.  This was smooth and soft...soft green - like the green in the rejuvenating elixir - soft shining light - like pink candle lights melting...

She could sit - lay - wander - whatever she wanted... and felt to do...We were the only ones there... and of course LOVE.  The air was fresh and relaxing...

Emaryll smiled...I smiled back and began to announce breath in breath out and so on her belly moved with the breath... and finally she sat on a bank with her back leaning on the smooth wall...and aaaaaha..of course the first one coming was a girl. Al Sha KA. Opening the way for her brother. El Sha KA. The balanced twins are born...they said:

"We both carry the same ...but we decided to be different gender but the same...to show that everyone of you is male and female - no duality "

The birth was as I always was told by my Mother...the birth was as I had it with the boys, no crying... no pain. The three "worked" together the only thing I did was giving some "commands" for breathing and then a sigh.

And I held the first and brought her onto the belly of the Mother and nearly immediately the second one came into my hands...and then both of them lay together...with the Mother...all the three in a golden shine...

This is so normal....a peaceful calm naturally, but still tears run down my cheeks for the love that is around...I do not know if you can feel this great love...I hope so and be surrounded by it...

I wish all the becoming mothers such a giving birth all the coming babies such a entering into this earthly body...

Grandfather Veronika Holy Spirit Sails Across, 
Giving birth to twins girls and then twin boys looks like God wanted to teach you something. You see we are all called Twin Hearts, this is why we act like others. Twin children show us this really well. However, this doesn't mean their rainbow sacred colors are the same, as you know your own children. This is why even identical twins have different personalities, but similar behaviors. I am called Twin Deer Mother, because I Twin the Heart of Others, and this is how I know what they feel inside of them. We all have some ability to do this, we call a sixth sense as it blows in the wind.


The Soul is considered female from the darkness of heaven.  The Flesh is considered male from the lightness of earth.  However, we are both girls and boys, on each side also.  This offers us four sacred directions. For instance, your Soul is Male, Grandfather Light, and your Flesh is Female.  This is called balanced.  Some have female soul and female flesh or male soul and male fresh, then these people are off balance, or have a mission that directs them towards the behavior needed for their own evolution.  I also have the Soul Male, First Sun, and my Flesh is Female.  These are the manifestations of God, the Oneness of all creation.  

We come to do what is needed, as we agree to be here with others to communicate and speak stories of remembering.  Since our Souls are eternal, we know much, but our Flesh is young, and must learn to remember, this is evolution, and now in a time when so many are remembering, but confused, they will need those who can guide them homeward to ONENESS, the family of relatives.  Thank you Grandfather Light, about speaking the perfect part of birthing, and how luminous the whole experience can bee, the impossible flight.
